On September 18th, 2010, Todd and Jeff started from Laurel, Maryland and Cressona, Pennsylvania, respectively. After meeting up at the Sheetz in Breezewood, PA, they set off for four weeks and ~9,000 miles of adventure around the United States. The general route was as follows:
Day 1: Breezewood, PA to River Hotel in Chicago, IL, via I-76 West, I-70 West and I-65 North.
Day 2: Chicago, IL to Wapsipinicon State Park campground in Anamosa, Iowa, via I-88 West and Hwy 64 West.
Day 4: Sioux City, Iowa to Winner, South Dakota, via I-29 North and Hwy 44 West.
Day 5: Winner, SD to City Campground in Spearfish, SD via Rapid City and Mt Rushmore.
Day 6: Spearfish, SD to Denver, CO via Devil’s Tower and Sundance, Wyoming, then south on US 85 into Colorado.
Day 7: Local in Denver. We did some clothes shopping and put on new tires at TFOG in Denver.
Day 8: Local riding to Colordao Springs (Garden of the Gods, Pike’s Peak) and back to Denver.
Day 9: Local riding on the mountain roads near Denver.
Day 10: Denver to Ouray, Colorado via Loveland Pass and Independence Pass
Day 11: Ouray, CO to camping in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah, via Million Dollar Highway and Durango.
Day 12: Arches N.P. to Comfort Inn in Salt Lake City, UT.
Day 13: SLC to Interstate 8 motel in Lakeview, Oregon via Bonneville Salt Flats.
Day 14: Lakeview, OR to Jebediah Smith Campground, via Crater Lake.
Day 15: Jebediah Smith Campground to Villa Inn in San Rafael, CA via Eureka and US 101.
Day 16: San Rafael to Atascadero, CA via San Francisco and Rt 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) through Santa Cruz and Big Sur.
Day 17: Atascadero, CA to Los Angeles, CA via PCH.
Day 18: Los Angeles, CA to Las Vegas, Nevada
Day 19: Las Vegas to Mather Campground in Arizona (near the Grand Canyon), via Hoover Dam.
Day 20: Grand Canyon, AZ to Socorro, New Mexico.
Day 21: Socorro, NM to Big Spring, Texas, via Roswell.
Day 22: Big Spring, TX to Buda, TX via Salt Lick Restaurant in Driftwood.
Day 23: Buda, TX to Port Arthur, TX.
Day 24: Port Arthur, TX to New Orleans, Louisana via the coast.
Day 25: Off the bikes in New Orleans.
Day 26: New Orleans, LA to Leeds, Alabama
Day 27: Barber Motorsports Museum to Deal’s Gap Resort (North Carolina)
Day 28: Deal’s Gap to Home!
The entire trek encompassed 23 states, and covered approximately 9,000 road miles. No major mechanical issues occurred and no injuries were sustained.
